The SANDVIK COROMANT 8019552 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMR style, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides hardness, thermal resistance, and lubricity across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert features a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. It is manufactured to ISO code TPMR 16 03 04 4425 with grade 4425, targeting steel as the primary workpiece material. Machinists and tooling technicians install this insert into compatible clamp-style toolholders on production or job-shop turning equipment.
This insert is suited for turning operations on steel workpieces, including roughing and semi-finishing passes where a controlled corner radius and reliable coating adhesion are required. The triangular insert shape (T) with an 11-degree relief angle and clearance code P supports positive cutting geometries that reduce cutting forces on medium to harder steels. Chip breaker style 53 assists in breaking and evacuating chips during continuous or interrupted cuts. It is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume turning applications in industrial machine shops.
Designed for use in clamp-style TPMR toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece material code K indicates suitability for cast iron and similar materials as noted by the manufacturer.
Turning inserts are seated and secured by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate clamp hardware for the toolholder. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating to prevent rocking that can cause premature edge failure. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
