The SANDVIK COROMANT 8019496 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT-PF series, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation TPMT 16 T3 04-PF 4425 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has a triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. Grade 4425 is formulated for steel cutting applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working with steel components are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for turning steel workpieces, including general-purpose carbon and alloy steels, in production and job-shop environments. The PF chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where chip control and surface finish are priorities. The clamp and screw holding method provides secure seating in compatible TPMT-style toolholders. It is well-suited for use on modern CNC turning centers where consistent tool life and repeatable edge geometry are required across multi-shift production runs.
Designed for use in TPMT-style toolholders that accept triangular inserts with a P clearance angle and M tolerance class. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece material code K indicates suitability for cast iron in appropriate conditions. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications match the TPMT 16 T3 insert size code before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper edge indexing and clamping.
