The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861235 is a TNMG-style turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the T-Max P series, this insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a multi-layer CVD coating consisting of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN, providing high wear resistance and thermal stability during cutting. It features a 60-degree diamond insert shape with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 1/16-inch corner radius. The manufacturer grade is 4425, suited for steel and cast iron workpiece materials. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators using clamp or screw holding methods.
This insert is designed for turning applications on ferrous materials, including steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). Its neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand toolholders in common TNMG insert pockets. Typical use cases include roughing and semi-finishing passes on shafts, flanges, and general-purpose turned components in production and job-shop environments. The G-style chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feed and depth-of-cut conditions.
Designed for use in standard TNMG insert pocket toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with N clearance and M tolerance. ISO designation is TNMG 22 04 16-PR 4425. Compatible with primary workpiece material codes P (steel) and K (cast iron).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping guidelines. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Do not overtighten screw-style clamping hardware, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
