The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861230 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by ISO code TNMG 22 04 08-PM 4425, this insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation and delivers six usable cutting edges per insert. The CVD-applied multilayer coating stack of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. Machining professionals install this insert into compatible toolholders for steel and cast iron turning applications.
This insert is suited for medium to semi-finish turning of steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for cast iron. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip formation across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical in production turning environments. The T-Max P series is a common platform in industrial turning setups where consistent insert indexing and repeatability are required. CNC machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary installers of this insert type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for TNMG-style toolholders in the T-Max P series. Compatible toolholders must accept a clamp or screw insert holding method with a 0.2030 inches hole diameter and a 60-degree triangular insert seat.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware when securing the insert via clamp or screw method. Inspect the insert seat and toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate parameters established in your toolholder and machine documentation.
