Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861229 is a TNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 60-degree triangular insert shape with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.40 mm (0.0156 inch) corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The grade 4425 carbide substrate is coated via CVD with a multilayer Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN stack, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. Six usable cutting edges are available per insert, maximizing cost efficiency in production turning. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this consumable tooling component.

This insert is optimized for turning steel as its primary workpiece material (ISO material group P) and cast iron as its secondary workpiece material (ISO material group K). The PM chip breaker geometry is suited for medium machining conditions, handling a broad range of feeds and depths of cut on general steel components and gray or nodular cast iron workpieces. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finish passes where chip control and edge life are priorities in continuous or mildly interrupted cuts.

Key Features

  • Grade 4425 carbide with CVD-applied Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life
  • 60-degree triangle insert shape (ISO shape code T) with 6 indexable cutting edges per insert
  • 0.40 mm corner radius delivers a balance of edge strength and surface finish capability
  • PM chip breaker geometry designed for medium turning of steel and cast iron
  • Neutral hand orientation and N clearance code for versatile mounting in standard TNMG toolholders
  • Clamp and screw holding method compatibility with T-Max P series toolholders

Compatibility

Designed for use in TNMG-compatible toolholders within the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series. ISO code TNMG 22 04 04-PM 4425. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a 0.2030 inch hole diameter and clamp or screw holding. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before indexing.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before handling inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and confirm the locating surfaces are clean and free of chips before tightening the clamping screw or clamp. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque and inspect the insert seat for wear when indexing to a fresh edge.
