The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861140 is a WNMG331-WF 4425 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN over a carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has an 80-degree trigon shape (W), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. The WF chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing to medium cutting operations. A licensed machinist or CNC setup technician installs and indexes this insert as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert is intended for machining steel (ISO material code P) as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO material code K) as a secondary application. It is well suited for finishing cuts where consistent chip control and surface finish are required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both left- and right-hand toolholders that accept WNMG-style inserts. The T-Max P series is a common platform in production turning environments, both in job shop and high-volume manufacturing settings. Each package contains one insert.
Designed for use in toolholders that accept WNMG-style inserts with clamp or screw holding methods, as specified in the T-Max P series platform. ISO code WNMG 06 04 04-WF 4425 can be used for cross-referencing compatible toolholder systems.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tools specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert with the clamp or screw holding method. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the cutting parameter ranges published in the tooling system documentation for this grade and geometry.
