The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861117 is a VBMT-style indexable turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, this insert carries the manufacturer grade 4425 and is designed for stable, productive cutting in steel and cast iron workpieces. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V), a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The UF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation at light to moderate cutting depths, making this insert a standard choice for finishing and semi-finishing passes on CNC turning centers.
This insert is part of the CoroTurn 107 series, which targets external turning applications on both conventional and CNC lathes in job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with a secondary application in cast iron (ISO code K). The insert is held using a clamp or screw method and fits toolholders designed around the VBMT insert form factor. The ISO industry standard designation for this insert is VBMT 11 02 08-UF 4425. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tooling technicians working in metal removal operations are the typical end users.
Designed for use in VBMT-compatible CoroTurn 107 toolholders. The ISO insert designation VBMT 11 02 08-UF 4425 should be cross-referenced against the toolholder specification to confirm pocket and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and all axes locked or in a safe state. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge, as contamination in the pocket can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Never exceed the cutting parameter recommendations published by SANDVIK COROMANT for the 4425 grade and UF geometry.
