The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861101 is a WNMG332-QM 4425 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the T-Max P series, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The trigon (W) insert shape provides 6 cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is sized for standard medium-duty turning toolholders. Installation requires no special tooling beyond a standard torx or hex key for clamp or screw holding.
This insert is primarily suited for turning steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K) in production machining environments. The QM chip breaker geometry is engineered for general-purpose medium turning, offering reliable chip control across a range of feeds and depths of cut. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations. It is commonly used in job shops, production facilities, and manufacturing operations where consistent surface finish and tool life on ferrous materials are required.
Designed for use with toolholders in the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series that accept WNMG 06 04 08 (WNMG332) insert geometry. Compatible with clamp and screw holding systems. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary application is cast iron (ISO K).
This insert is installed by licensed machinists or CNC operators using standard insert clamp or screw-holding hardware specified for the WNMG seat geometry. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or contamination before seating a new insert. Do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque guidance.
