The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861085 is a DNMG-style turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN under manufacturer grade 4425, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 55-degree diamond shape (insert shape code D) delivers a strong cutting edge geometry with a 1/32-inch corner radius. With four available cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert suits a wide range of turning toolholders used by machinists and CNC operators in production environments.
This insert is primarily rated for steel (ISO material group P) with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO material group K). It fits standard DNMG toolholders using clamp or screw holding methods. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel shafts, flanges, and cast iron housings in automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing settings. The QM chip breaker geometry is suited for medium-duty cutting conditions where controlled chip evacuation is critical to unattended or high-volume production runs.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for DNMG 332-QM style inserts in standard DNMG toolholders using clamp or screw holding methods. ISO industry standard number DNMG 11 04 08-QM 4425 can be used to verify toolholder and insert seat compatibility.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, power down the machine and ensure the spindle is fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing clamp or screw-style seating. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
