The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861083 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade 4425 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C), a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.40 mm (0.0156 inch) corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and compatibility with clamp and screw holding methods, it is suited for production turning environments where tool life and consistent chip control are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel (ISO material code P) and secondarily for cast iron (ISO material code K). The QM chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow across a broad range of depths of cut and feed rates in these materials. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel components in general machining, automotive, and industrial production environments. The T-Max P series is a well-established platform for high-productivity external turning with consistent dimensional repeatability across multi-edge use cycles.
Designed to fit CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.3120 inch hole diameter and clamp or screw retention. ISO code CNMG 19 06 04-QM 4425. Verify toolholder pocket and clamping hardware specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tool-room technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten or use improvised tools that may damage the insert seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new edge.
