The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861068 is a TCMT-style turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 60-degree diamond shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a neutral hand orientation. The insert carries grade 4425 solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 0.0469-inch corner radius and a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, it is sized for finishing and semi-finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible TCMT toolholders using a clamp or screw holding method.
This insert is suited for turning steel and cast iron workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is used in both production machining environments and job-shop turning cells. The CoroTurn 107 series is engineered for light to medium cutting depths where close tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The TCMT geometry with chip breaker code T (PM) promotes controlled chip flow and is appropriate for continuous-cut external turning on bar stock and turned components.
Designed for use in TCMT-style toolholders that accept inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and clamp or screw holding; ISO industry standard number TCMT 11 03 12-PM 4425 applies for cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling specialists following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for TCMT screw-on or clamp-style holders. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before clamping. Do not exceed the insert manufacturer recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the 4425 grade and PM chip breaker combination.
