The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861051 is a VBMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries grade 4425 carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 35-degree diamond (V-shape) geometry gives the insert a narrow profile suited for profiling and finishing passes. The PF chip breaker is optimized for finishing operations in steel. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the neutral hand orientation fits standard VBMT toolholders.
This insert is used in precision turning applications targeting steel as the primary workpiece material and cast iron as a secondary material. It is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where controlled chip formation and surface finish are priorities. The CoroTurn 107 series designation indicates compatibility with the corresponding SANDVIK COROMANT toolholder and clamping system. Typical installation environments include production machine shops, job shops, and maintenance repair operations running CNC or manual lathes.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept VBMT-style inserts with clamp and screw holding. ISO industry standard number VBMT 11 03 04-PF 4425 applies for cross-reference to equivalent toolholder systems from other manufacturers accepting VBMT geometry inserts.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a safe, powered-down state before any toolholder work. Verify the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking. Confirm insert hand orientation and chip breaker direction match the intended cutting direction before initiating a cut.
