The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861047 is a TNMG-style triangular turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade 4425 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.40 mm corner radius, a 60-degree included angle, and a neutral hand orientation. Six cutting edges are available per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this type of insert in production turning applications where consistent tool life and chip control are the primary concerns.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel (ISO material code P) and secondarily for cast iron (ISO material code K) in light to medium finishing and semi-finishing passes. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations at lower depths of cut and feed rates, producing controlled chip formation on steel workpieces. It fits standard TNMG toolholders that accept a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.150 inch hole diameter and is held by clamp or screw methods. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour work on production runs.
Designed to seat in TNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.150 inch center hole diameter and clamp or screw retention. ISO code TNMG 16 04 04-PF 4425. Catalog reference TNMG 331-PF. Industry standard number TNMG 16 04 04-PF 4425.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping seat for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Torque clamping screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not this insert specification. Confirm correct insert orientation and chip breaker side before resuming cuts.
