The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861042 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert engineered for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Built on the CoroTurn 107 platform, this solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN using the manufacturer grade 4425. The triangular insert geometry provides three usable cutting edges per insert. The PF chip breaker geometry is designed to promote controlled chip formation during light to medium finishing passes. With a 7/32 inch inscribed circle and a 0.4 mm corner radius, this insert is suited for close-tolerance turning work on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is intended for use in CoroTurn 107 toolholders that accept TCMT-style inserts with a screw and clamp holding method. Typical applications include finish turning and light roughing of steel components and cast iron parts in production machining environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand turning operations. This insert is commonly selected by CNC machinists and toolroom operators working on precision shaft, sleeve, and bore-facing operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting TCMT-style inserts with screw and clamp mounting. ISO code TCMT 09 02 04-PF 4425. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop condition and all axes locked. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw hardware when seating the insert to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine lockout protocols before any tooling change.
