The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860995 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG333-PM geometry, part of the T-Max P series designed for precision external turning operations. This insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1.19 mm corner radius. The substrate carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN under the manufacturer grade 4425, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted steel cutting. Machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert into compatible toolholders for production-volume turning work.
This insert is intended for primary use on steel workpieces and secondary use on cast iron. It fits typical production turning environments ranging from light finishing to moderate roughing passes. The PM chip breaker geometry is suited for medium-depth cuts where controlled chip formation is required. The insert holds four cutting edges, reducing per-edge tooling cost in high-throughput shop environments. Applicable in both CNC and manual lathe setups wherever VNMG-style toolholders are in use.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts per ISO code VNMG 16 04 12-PM 4425. Compatible with standard VNMG clamp and screw-type toolholders. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following machine tool lockout and spindle-stop procedures before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new cutting edge. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming the cut.
