The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860992 is a WNMG433-PM 4425 series turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The trigon (W) insert shape provides six usable cutting edges per insert, maximizing tool life per unit. With a 1.19 mm corner radius and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, it fits standard WNMG toolholders used in production machining environments. It is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians running steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is suited for turning steel (ISO P) as its primary workpiece material and cast iron (ISO K) as a secondary application. The PM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel components. Typical installations include production turning on horizontal and vertical CNC lathes in job shops, OEM manufacturing cells, and maintenance machine shops. The T-Max P series designation identifies it within a widely adopted indexable tooling platform used across general metalworking operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for WNMG 08 04 12-PM style toolholders and boring bars configured for WNMG inserts. ISO industry standard number WNMG 08 04 12-PM 4425 allows cross-reference to compatible tooling systems from other manufacturers using the same insert seat geometry.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Before indexing or replacing an insert, disengage the machine spindle and ensure the turret is fully stopped and locked out. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamp or screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before retorquing the clamping hardware. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris that could affect seating and dimensional accuracy.
