The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860958 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade designation 4425 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides heat resistance and wear resistance at the cutting edge. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (ISO shape code C), a neutral hand orientation, and a 1.19 mm (0.0469 inch) corner radius. With four cutting edges per insert, it delivers cost-effective tooling life on production turning applications. It belongs to the T-Max P series.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and is also suitable for cast iron (ISO material group K). Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on shafts, flanges, and cylindrical components on both manual and CNC turning equipment. The XMR chip breaker geometry is suited to medium cutting conditions where chip control and edge stability are priorities. It is used by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in job shops, production machining facilities, and maintenance machine shops.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNMG 12 04 12 toolholders with clamp or screw holding methods. Specific compatible toolholder models were not stated in the product data; verify toolholder compatibility using the ISO insert size code 1204 and clearance code N before installation.
Indexable turning inserts are seated and secured by a licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing an insert, power down the spindle and confirm all machine motion has ceased. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Tighten clamp screws to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure; do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert-holding hardware.
