The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860903 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation CCMT 09 T3 04-UF 4425 and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over a carbide substrate in grade 4425, combining wear resistance with thermal stability. With an 80-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.40 mm corner radius, it is suited for finishing and light semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible CoroTurn 107 toolholders.
This insert is configured for neutral hand, making it usable in both left- and right-hand toolholder setups depending on the application. The UF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is appropriate for use in both light production and job-shop environments where consistent surface finish and tight dimensional tolerances are required. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the clamp-and-screw holding method secures the insert firmly in the pocket during operation.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO code P) and cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state before insert change. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure using the appropriate clamp and screw per the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can affect insert stability and surface finish quality. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the UF geometry, as it is a finishing-oriented chip breaker.
