The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860860 is a square-shaped carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the SNMG 19 06 12-QM 4425 ISO designation and features a multilayer CVD coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN applied over a carbide substrate. The 4425 grade is engineered for cutting steel and cast iron at production feed rates. The QM chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation across a broad range of cutting depths and feed rates. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in SNMG-compatible toolholders for general turning on production lines and job shops.
This insert is suited for turning steel (ISO material group P) as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO material group K) as the secondary application. The T-Max P series is a standard platform for general-purpose turning in both residential machine shops and high-volume production environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and shoulder work on ferrous components.
Designed for use in SNMG-compatible toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch inscribed circle square insert. ISO code SNMG 19 06 12-QM 4425 governs toolholder slot geometry and seating requirements. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder pocket. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing clamp or screw-style retention. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
