The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860854 is a DNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation DNMG 15 06 08-QM 4425 and belongs to the T-Max P series. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide substrate and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers thermal resistance and wear life in continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.79 mm corner radius, this insert is built for productive steel and cast iron machining in production environments. It is installed by machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel workpieces and cast iron components. The QM chip breaker geometry is engineered for moderate to heavy chip loads, helping control chip evacuation in automated turning cycles. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts. The T-Max P series is a common platform in production turning cells handling P-class and K-class workpiece materials per ISO classification.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and clamp or screw insert-holding method. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K). ISO code DNMG 15 06 08-QM 4425.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or tool post is locked out per shop safety procedure. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or screw to avoid insert rocking under cutting load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before indexing to a fresh cutting edge.
