The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860845 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN stack, this insert delivers heat resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond geometry and QM chip breaker geometry are engineered for stable, productive cuts on steel and cast iron. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it provides consistent tool life across production runs. Licensed HVAC technicians install this part with standard tooling. It weighs 0.04 pounds.
This insert is intended for turning applications in steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K), covering both roughing and finishing passes depending on feed and depth selection. The QM chip breaker is suited for medium to roughing cuts where chip control is critical. The T-Max P series is a widely used platform in production turning environments, including automotive, general engineering, and heavy component machining shops. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC turning center operators working with compatible toolholders sized for CNMG inserts with a 5/8 inch inscribed circle.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle locked and all power isolated from the turning center. Use the toolholder manufacturer-specified torx or hex key for the clamping screw to avoid stripping the seating pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable ANSI or ISO machining standards when setting tool offsets after insert changes.
