The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860815 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation CCMT433 and ISO designation CCMT 12 04 12-PM 4425, with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape. The substrate is coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack, delivering high wear resistance with moderate toughness. The PM chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining applications. Inscribed circle diameter is 0.5000 inches (12.70 mm) and corner radius is 1.19 mm (0.0469 inches). Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel (ISO material group P) with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO material group K). Grade 4425 sits in the high-to-moderate wear-resistance range, making it well suited for continuous and lightly interrupted cuts at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. The PM chip breaker handles chip control during roughing passes and medium material removal rates. The neutral hand orientation and positive side clearance (7-degree relief angle) allow flexible toolholder pairing. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on low-to-medium alloy steels and gray cast iron components.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCMT433 (ISO CCMT 12 04 12) inserts with a 5.50 mm hole diameter. Compatible toolholders use either clamp or screw clamping methods. Verify toolholder bore and seating geometry before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle stopped and all axis motion locked out per the machine tool builder lockout procedure. Use the correct Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer specified torque when securing a screw-lock style pocket; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping load. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
