The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860768 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries manufacturer grade 4425 and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal barrier properties suited to moderate-to-high cutting speeds. The 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) delivers a strong cutting edge geometry, and the WMX chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in steel and cast iron applications. This insert is used by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is built for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO material group K). The WMX chip breaker geometry is particularly effective in medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and edge stability are priorities. The neutral hand orientation and four available cutting edges make it adaptable across a range of turning setups. It fits standard CNMG 1204 toolholders that accept clamp and screw holding methods, which are common across most production turning programs in industrial and job-shop environments.

Indexable inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing any insert. Verify the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installation, as debris under the insert will affect depth-of-cut accuracy and can cause premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw; do not over-torque.
