The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860727 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade 4425 and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (CNMG) provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to moderate to heavy stock removal. With a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a corner radius of 2.38 mm (0.0938 inches), and a neutral hand orientation, this insert fits standard CNMG toolholders and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K) in production and job-shop environments. The T-Max P series chip breaker designation PR is optimized for general-purpose steel turning, offering predictable chip control across a broad range of cutting depths and feed rates. It is suited to roughing and medium finishing passes on carbon steel, alloy steel, and gray or ductile cast iron components. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and machining facilities are the primary users.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or production insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick diamond insert with a 0.250-inch hole diameter. ISO code CNMG 16 06 24-PR 4425. Manufacturer catalog number CNMG 546-PR 4425. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and cast iron (K).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the cutting parameter recommendations from the toolholder manufacturer and SANDVIK COROMANT grade documentation for feed rate, depth of cut, and cutting speed appropriate to the workpiece material.
