The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860722 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. This insert carries manufacturer grade 4425 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The diamond-shaped insert body has an 80-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.79 mm corner radius. With four cutting edges and a PR chip breaker geometry, it is suited for productive steel turning across a range of depths of cut and feed rates. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily applied in turning steel (ISO P workpiece material) with a secondary application in cast iron (ISO K). The T-Max P series targets general and roughing-to-finishing turning passes on conventional and high-speed CNC turning centers. The neutral hand orientation and CNMG geometry support use in standard tool holders accepting ISO CNMG 12 04 08 inserts. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling in automotive, general engineering, and fabrication environments where consistent tool life on steel components is required.
Designed for use in ISO-standard tool holders accepting CNMG 12 04 08 inserts. ISO code CNMG 12 04 08-PR 4425 identifies direct holder compatibility. Verify tool holder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Insert changes are performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamping screw or clamp before indexing or replacing the insert. Inspect the insert seat and shim for damage or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination affects edge runout and surface finish. Follow the machine tool builder and tooling manufacturer torque guidelines for the specific clamping system in use.
