The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860720 is a SNMG-style square turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The neutral hand orientation and 0.0469 inch (1.19 mm) corner radius make it suitable for general-purpose profiling and facing. It carries manufacturer grade 4425, optimized primarily for steel and cast iron machining. Each insert provides 8 usable cutting edges, reducing per-edge tooling cost. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers select this insert for production turning where consistent tool life and surface finish are required.
This insert is intended for use in medium to heavy turning applications on steel and cast iron workpieces in both residential shop and industrial production environments. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered for positive chip control during continuous and interrupted cuts. The ISO code SNMG 15 06 12-PM 4425 and catalog designation SNMG 543-PM 4425 allow direct cross-reference to compatible SANDVIK COROMANT toolholders designed for SNMG insert pockets. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians on turning centers configured for 5/8 inch inscribed circle inserts.
Compatible with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders designed for SNMG inserts with a 5/8 inch inscribed circle. ISO designation SNMG 15 06 12-PM 4425. Primary workpiece material: Steel (ISO code P). Secondary workpiece material: Cast Iron (ISO code K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp or screw to avoid cracking the insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and accurate edge positioning.
