The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860697 is a CNMG434-PM 4425 turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This indexable insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) provides two strong cutting edges per corner, and with 4 cutting edges total, the insert offers extended tool life per unit. It carries a neutral hand orientation and fits standard CNMG-style toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert for turning steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is suited for turning steel (ISO material code P) as its primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO material code K) as a secondary application. The PM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium to roughing passes on steel components, helping manage chip formation and cutting forces. The T-Max P series designation indicates compatibility with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P toolholder systems. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on horizontal and vertical CNC turning machines in both production and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders using clamp or screw insert holding methods within the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. ISO code CNMG 12 04 16-PM 4425 and manufacturers catalog number CNMG 434-PM 4425 can be used to confirm toolholder and seat compatibility.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the insert seat and clamping hardware for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Torque clamping screws to toolholder manufacturer specifications using the appropriate Torx or hex key driver.
