The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860693 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade 4425 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for thermal resistance and wear life in continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a diamond (80-degree) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.79 mm (0.0313 inch) corner radius suited for general-purpose finishing and semi-finishing passes. It belongs to the T-Max P series, Sandvik Coromant's platform for steel and cast iron turning applications. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders as a direct production consumable.
This insert is intended for turning steel and cast iron workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The PM chip breaker geometry controls chip formation across a range of feeds and depths of cut typical in steel turning. With four cutting edges per insert, it delivers cost efficiency in high-volume operations. It is used in both roughing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation and edge security are priorities. The ISO code CNMG 09 03 08-PM 4425 identifies it for cross-referencing in toolholder catalogs and programming sheets.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle insert with clamp or screw holding. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K). ISO code CNMG 09 03 08-PM 4425 and manufacturers catalog number CNMG 322-PM 4425 apply for toolholder and program compatibility verification.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by CNC machinists and tool-crib technicians following standard toolholder torque procedures per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any cutting insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before clamping to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure. Dispose of used carbide inserts according to local regulations for hard-metal waste.
