The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860579 is a WNMG332-PM 4415 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. It features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) geometry with a neutral hand orientation and a 1/32-inch corner radius, making it suitable for general-purpose turning where consistent edge life and reliable chip control are priorities. The insert carries an Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN multilayer CVD coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and semi-interrupted cuts. With 6 available cutting edges per insert, it offers a cost-effective service life in production environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel (ISO P classification) and is also rated for cast iron (ISO K classification). It fits into the T-Max P toolholder series and is suited for medium-duty turning applications in both job shop and production machining environments. The PM chip breaker geometry is optimized for general steel turning at moderate cutting depths and feed rates. Machinists working on shaft components, flanges, and similar steel or cast iron workpieces will find this insert well matched to standard roughing and finishing passes.
Designed for use in T-Max P series toolholders accepting WNMG 06 04 08 inserts. ISO code WNMG 06 04 08-PM 4415. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K). Insert holding method is clamp or screw.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly in the pocket, verify clamp or screw torque per toolholder manufacturer specifications, and confirm no insert overhang or rocking before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris that could misalign the cutting edge.
