The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860534 is a VNMG-style diamond-shape turning insert in grade 4415, designed for external turning operations on steel workpieces. It features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating consisting of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. It belongs to the T-Max P series and is intended for use by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production environments.
This insert is engineered for steel turning applications, classified under ISO primary workpiece material code P. The LC chip breaker geometry is suited for light to medium cutting depths where controlled chip evacuation is critical. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it supports efficient tooling economics in high-volume turning cells on CNC lathes. The VNMG 16 04 04-LC 4415 ISO designation allows straightforward cross-referencing with toolholder systems and industry catalogs. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders with clamp or screw holding methods. ISO code VNMG 16 04 04-LC 4415 applies. Compatible toolholders must accept a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thick diamond-shape insert with a 35-degree included angle and N clearance angle.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque driver for screw-lock holders as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the new cutting edge for damage before resuming operation.
