The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860522 is a VBMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroTurn 107 series, it is manufactured from solid carbide and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The insert has a 35-degree included angle (V-shape), a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0469 inch corner radius, and a 3/16 inch insert thickness. Neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for a wide range of turning applications. The PM chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across varying depths of cut and feed rates.
This insert is intended for machining ISO material groups P (carbon and alloy steels) and K (cast irons), covering the most common workpiece materials encountered in production turning environments. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators using clamp or screw holding methods. The manufacturer grade 4415 positions this insert for moderate to high cutting speeds where wear resistance and coating integrity are critical. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of steel and cast iron components in both job shop and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts with a B clearance code and M tolerance code. Compatible with ISO material groups P and K. ISO industry standard number VBMT160412PM4415 may be used for cross-reference with compatible toolholder specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware to secure the insert; do not overtighten screw or clamp mechanisms. Inspect the insert seat and toolholder pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
