The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859249 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for high-productivity external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the DNMX432-WMX 4415 designation, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a Wiper Edge geometry that improves surface finish at higher feed rates. The CVD multilayer coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — delivers heat resistance and wear resistance suited to continuous and interrupted steel cutting. With a 12.7 mm inscribed circle and a 0.79 mm corner radius, the insert handles medium to roughing-range material removal passes efficiently.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and is also rated for cast iron (ISO material group K). The WMX chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium turning with good chip control across a range of depths of cut and feed rates. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on production CNC equipment in job shops, metalworking facilities, and manufacturing cells where consistent tool life and surface finish are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users. The ISO code for this insert is DNMX 15 04 08-WMX 4415.
Designed for use in DNMX-style toolholders within the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary rated workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K). Insert Size Code 1504. Compatible toolholders must accept a 0.2030-inch hole diameter with clamp or screw holding. Verify toolholder designation against the DNMX insert shape and 3/16-inch insert thickness before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or screw to avoid micro-movement under cut. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage or built-up material before each insert change, as pocket damage accelerates edge failure and can affect dimensional accuracy.
