The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859248 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This insert carries the DNMX 431-WF 4415 designation and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN to deliver wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 55-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code D) provides a sharp, defined cutting geometry. With a 0.40 mm corner radius, a 12.70 mm inscribed circle, and four available cutting edges, this insert is suited to high-productivity steel and cast iron turning applications. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is primarily applied in turning operations targeting steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K). The WF chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut and feed rates in both roughing and finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation makes it usable in standard right-hand toolholders configured for DNMX-style inserts. Typical installations include OD turning, facing, and light profiling on production lathes in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance shops.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting DNMX-style inserts with a clamp or screw holding method. Verified ISO code is DNMX 15 04 04-WF 4415. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Consult toolholder documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamping configuration before indexing.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off, spindle locked, and all stored energy released per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and seating tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp or screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Never attempt to re-sharpen or modify a coated carbide insert.
