The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859247 is a CNMG543-WMX 4415 grade indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during high-volume production cuts. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 1.19 mm corner radius (0.0469 inches). The WMX chip breaker geometry is engineered for steel and cast iron machining, making this insert well suited to medium roughing and semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the T-Max P tooling series.
This insert is intended for turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both light and heavy production environments. The WMX chip breaker promotes efficient chip control during continuous and interrupted cuts at moderate-to-high feed rates. It is compatible with CNMG-style insert pockets and can be held by either clamp or screw mounting methods. The four available cutting edges allow the insert to be indexed on the machine without changing the holder, reducing downtime between tool changes on production turning equipment.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNMG-style insert pockets in T-Max P turning holders. ISO code equivalent is CNMG 16 06 12-WMX 4415. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when using screw-style mounting; clamp-style holders should be inspected for seating and clamping force per the holder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
