The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859243 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal protection during continuous and interrupted cutting. The 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to general-purpose turning. It features a WF chip breaker, a 0.4 mm corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. Installation and application are handled by machinists and tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for cutting steel as its primary workpiece material and cast iron as the secondary workpiece material, aligning with ISO material groups P and K respectively. The WF chip breaker geometry is suited to finishing and light roughing passes where controlled chip evacuation and surface finish consistency are priorities. The insert mounts using clamp or screw holding methods and is compatible with standard CNMG 1204 toolholders. With four cutting edges per insert, it supports efficient tooling economics in high-volume turning applications.
Designed for use with standard CNMG 1204-format toolholders accepting clamp or screw mounting. Primary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO P); secondary compatibility is cast iron (ISO K). Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. ISO code: CNMG 12 04 04-WF 4415.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid fracturing the carbide substrate. Do not use a damaged or worn seat surface, as uneven support will reduce edge life and can cause insert breakage.
