The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859197 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, engineered for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert is designed to hold up under the thermal and abrasive demands of continuous and interrupted steel cuts. It carries a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, and a 0.79 mm corner radius. The PF chip breaker geometry and 4415 grade combination target finish to semi-finish turning passes where controlled chip formation and coating durability are both required.
This insert is suited for turning operations in production machining environments, including job shops and high-volume manufacturing cells. Its primary workpiece material rating is steel (ISO P), with a secondary rating for cast iron (ISO K). The T-Max P series designation indicates compatibility with standard CNMG toolholders used across a broad range of industrial turning applications, from moderate feed roughing to light finishing cuts. The four available cutting edges on a single insert support cost-effective indexing in repetitive turning cycles.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style indexable turning toolholders that accept clamp and screw insert-holding methods. Rated for primary use on steel (ISO P workpiece material code) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO K workpiece material code). ISO insert code CNMG 09 03 08-PF 4415 can be used to verify toolholder and insert pocket compatibility.
Indexable turning inserts of this type are installed and replaced by machinist or CNC setup personnel during toolholder maintenance or cutting edge indexing. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder pocket. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamp or screw style holding mechanism — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or damage before seating a new insert edge.
