The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859116 is a solid carbide turning insert with ISO designation DCMT 11 T3 08-UM 4415, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — a stack engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) provides a pointed geometry suited to profiling, finishing, and light roughing passes. With a 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a 0.79 mm corner radius, it is sized for moderate depth-of-cut work where surface finish and edge precision matter. Two cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series, a platform designed for external and internal turning with screw or clamp holding methods. It is specified for steel as the primary workpiece material (ISO P) and cast iron as the secondary workpiece material (ISO K), covering a broad range of common turning applications in job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machining environments. The UM chip breaker geometry is suited to universal turning — finishing to medium cuts — where consistent chip control across varying feed rates is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use in DCMT-style turning toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn 107 series platform. ISO insert code DCMT 11 T3 08-UM 4415 and manufacturers catalog number DCMT 3(2.5)2-UM 4415 may be used for cross-reference when sourcing equivalent holders or replacement grades.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators following standard insert-change procedures for screw-lock or clamp-style toolholders. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket, shim, and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Do not force the insert into the pocket; proper seating ensures repeatable tool geometry and edge integrity.
