The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859046 is a CNMG432-WMX 4415 grade turning insert engineered for high-performance external and internal turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide substrate and finished with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert delivers excellent wear resistance and thermal protection during continuous and interrupted cutting. The diamond-shaped (80-degree) insert geometry features a 0.79 mm corner radius, a neutral hand orientation, and the WMX chip breaker design, which promotes controlled chip formation across a wide range of cutting parameters. It is suited for medium to roughing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is designed for steel (ISO P) as its primary workpiece material and cast iron (ISO K) as its secondary application. The WMX chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth cuts where reliable chip control and consistent surface finish are priorities. The T-Max P series designation indicates compatibility with Sandvik Coromant T-Max P toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with a clamp-and-screw holding method. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and production turning operators working in job shop or high-volume manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with a clamp-and-screw holding method. ISO code CNMG 12 04 08-WMX 4415. Insert size code 1204. Optimized for steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) workpiece materials.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket seat for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand before resuming cutting operations.
