The SANDVIK COROMANT 7690540 is a carbide profiling insert in the CoroCut QD series, designed for external grooving, profiling, and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and Manufacturer Grade 1125, which suits interrupted cuts and applications requiring edge toughness. The RM chipbreaker geometry, combined with a 20-degree rake angle and 7-degree relief angle, promotes positive cutting action and chip control. With a corner radius of 0.1182 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0985 inches, this insert handles contour profiling passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish matter. The neutral hand orientation allows use on either side of a workpiece centerline.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in ISO material groups P, M, and S. Typical applications include profiling and finish turning on round bar stock, shafts, and complex contour features in production and job-shop environments. The clamp-style holding method is standard for CoroCut QD toolholders. The single cutting edge design ensures consistent edge geometry per insert, which is important when holding tight tolerances on profiled features. This insert is intended for use by experienced CNC machinists and toolroom technicians familiar with the CoroCut QD system.
Designed for use in CoroCut QD series toolholders that accept the QD insert style with a 0600 insert size code. Compatible with machining of ISO P, M, and S workpiece material groups including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Verify toolholder seat size and clamping configuration before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, bring the spindle to a full stop and follow your machine lockout procedure. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the CoroCut QD clamp to seat the insert firmly without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or damage before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket will affect runout and tool life.
