The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564395 is a solid carbide milling insert engineered for indexable milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built to the R390 series standard, this parallelogram-shaped insert carries a three-layer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - applied under manufacturer grade 4340. The coating sequence delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of cutting conditions. At 0.1875 inches thick with a 0.3780-inch inscribed circle and a 0.2500-inch corner radius, it is dimensioned for precision fitment in R390-compatible toolholders. Installation and operation are handled by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, covering material application codes P, M, and K. The PM chip breaker geometry supports a positive rake angle of 17 degrees, promoting efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. It is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where a maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5906 inches. The right-hand cutting configuration and screw-holding method make it a standard drop-in for R390 series face mills and shoulder mills used in production machining of ferrous and austenitic workpiece materials.
Designed for use in R390 series indexable milling cutters. ANSI and ISO code R390-17 04 64E-PM 4340 with insert size code 170464 confirms fitment in R390-compatible toolholders accepting a 0.1614-inch hole diameter and 0.3780-inch inscribed circle inserts.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before placing the new insert to ensure full contact and proper edge height.
