The SANDVIK COROMANT 7459668 is a thread forming tap engineered for high-performance cold-forming applications in metalworking environments. Manufactured from Powdered Metal High-Speed Steel (HSS-E-PM) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap produces threads by displacing material rather than cutting, resulting in stronger thread forms and longer tool life. It carries a 2BX class of fit and features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 3 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations. The overall length is 3.937 inches (100 millimeters) with a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15 millimeters). Coolant-through capability supports higher feed rates and improved chip management in demanding production settings. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC tooling professionals.
This tap is designed for 3/8-16 UNC right-hand thread applications in both blind hole and through-hole configurations. With a tapping depth of 1.5354 inches (39 millimeters) and a flute-by-diameter ratio of 3xD, it is suited for medium-depth threading passes in production machining cells, CNC tapping centers, and manual tapping operations. The Material Application Code P indicates suitability for steel and steel alloys, including Material Grade F125. Part of the CoroTap 400 series (T400-PM103AE), it includes 6 oil grooves that help distribute forming lubricant evenly during the thread-forming cycle.
Designed for 3/8-16 UNC right-hand thread forming in blind hole and through-hole applications in steel and steel alloys (Material Application Code P, Grade F125). Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTap 400 series T400-PM103AE.
Thread forming taps should be installed and operated by qualified machinists familiar with tapping center or CNC mill toolholding requirements. Power down and lock out all machine motion before changing tooling. Use an appropriate forming lubricant or coolant-through fluid compatible with the workpiece material. Do not use thread forming taps in brittle materials such as cast iron, as these require cutting taps instead.
