The SANDVIK COROMANT 7358216 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in metal cutting applications. This drill tip carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate using the PM insert geometry. It operates at a 142-degree included angle with a 1.0-inch cutting diameter, making it well-suited for high-productivity drilling in a range of workpiece materials. It belongs to the CoroDrill 870 series, a platform engineered around modular tip-to-shank compatibility. Installation and replacement are performed by machinists and CNC tool crib technicians on production turning centers, machining centers, and drill presses.
This replaceable tip is intended for use in drilling operations where consistent hole quality and fast tip changeover matter. The CoroDrill 870 platform uses an insert seat size 25, pairing this tip with compatible CoroDrill 870 shanks of the corresponding seat size. It is appropriate for light to moderate production environments where TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection. Coolant-through capability is not supported by this tip. Typical applications include general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials in both job shop and volume production settings.
Designed for use with CoroDrill 870 series shanks with an insert seat size 25. Confirm shank seat size compatibility before ordering. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. The drill tip is threaded or torque-seated into a compatible CoroDrill 870 shank body - always follow the shank manufacturer torque procedure and use the correct Torx or proprietary key supplied with the shank system. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before tip removal or installation. Inspect the insert seat for chips or contamination before seating a new tip to prevent runout and premature tip failure.
