The SANDVIK COROMANT 7358083 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. Part of the CoroDrill 870 series, this drill uses a solid carbide tip with a PM insert geometry and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The 22.23mm (0.8752 inch) cutting diameter and 142-degree included angle make it well suited for high-accuracy drilling in steel, stainless steel, and cast materials. The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost per hole by allowing the insert to be swapped without discarding the shank body. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This drill tip is used in CNC machining centers and turning centers where consistent hole diameter and finish are required. The CoroDrill 870 platform is a modular system that pairs replaceable carbide tips with steel or carbide shanks, making it a common choice in high-volume production shops running repeat drilling cycles. The insert seat size is 22, matching the corresponding 870-series shank. Coolant-through capability is not included in this configuration, so external coolant or air blast is the recommended approach for chip evacuation.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroDrill 870 series shanks with insert seat size 22. Verify shank seat size and series designation before ordering to confirm tip-to-body fit.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a safe, powered-down or tool-change state. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and drive key when seating the replaceable tip to avoid over-torquing the tip screw. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before mounting a new tip, as a contaminated seat will affect runout and hole quality. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for recommended cutting parameters when setting up for a new run.
