The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231507 is a WNMG433-MR 2220 series turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. This solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The trigon (80-degree included angle) insert geometry suits a wide range of external turning operations. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch) corner radius, the 7231507 is suited for medium to general-purpose turning where edge strength and surface finish matter. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with CNC turning equipment.
This insert fits into the T-Max P toolholder system and is intended for general external turning of steel and similar materials in production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations depending on setup. The MR chip breaker geometry is designed for medium roughing to finishing passes, making the insert versatile across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. It is a commonly specified insert in production turning operations where consistent chip control and long tool life are priorities.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts. ISO code WNMG 08 04 12-MR 2220 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder specifications.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle locked per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp or pin to avoid over-torquing the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Disposing of worn carbide inserts should follow applicable shop waste-handling protocols for carbide and coated tooling.
