The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231332 is a CNMG433-MM 2220 series turning insert designed for precision external turning operations in CNC lathe and turning center applications. This solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape (C), a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0469 inches (3/64 inches). With four available cutting edges and an MM chip breaker geometry, it is engineered specifically for work on stainless steel and other ISO M-class workpiece materials. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians typically specify this insert for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is suited for ISO M-class stainless steel turning applications where consistent chip control and edge life are priorities. The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for the work-hardening tendencies and gummy cutting behavior common in austenitic and duplex stainless steels. It fits standard CNMG-style toolholders with clamp and pin holding methods. Typical use scenarios include shaft turning, facing, and contour operations on CNC turning equipment in job shops and production environments.
Designed for use in standard CNMG433-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding. Compatible with T-Max P series turning systems. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine in a safe, powered-down state and all spindle rotation stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert-mounting hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before fitting a new insert. Never attempt to index or replace an insert while the machine is in cycle or the turret is in motion.
