The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080863 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for steel turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI insert code CNMG544 and ISO code CNMG 16 06 16-PR 4335, and belongs to the T-Max P series. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over a solid carbide substrate, delivering a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to roughing and medium machining passes on steel workpieces. With a 0.625-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0625-inch corner radius, it fits standard CNMG toolholders and is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on production and job-shop equipment.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel (ISO material group P), with grade characteristics described as moderate wear resistance and toughness to high toughness. The PR chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations, making it a practical choice for high-metal-removal passes and interrupted or continuous cuts on low- to medium-alloy steels. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand toolholder configurations that accept CNMG geometry inserts.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept 544 (ANSI) or 160616 (ISO) geometry inserts with clamp or pin holding methods, as specified by the ANSI and ISO insert codes for this series.
Indexable inserts should be seated and secured by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety standards and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert retention method, whether clamp or pin style.
