The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080861 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert is engineered for productive cutting in steel workpiece materials. It features a 5/8 inch (0.625 inch) inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius, and an 80-degree diamond shape (C-shape), providing a strong cutting edge geometry suited for medium to finish turning passes. The PR chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow during steel turning at varying depths and feed rates.
This insert is intended for use in steel turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The T-Max P series positions it for general-purpose steel turning, including low-alloy and medium-carbon steels, where consistent tool life and surface finish are priorities. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholders. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers practical economy in high-cycle turning programs on manual or CNC turning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit indexable insert for CNMG 16 06 08 toolholder seats (ISO code CNMG 16 06 08-PR 4335). Fits toolholders using clamp or pin retention compatible with CNMG insert geometry and a 0.25 inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert clamp — do not over-tighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder seat and chip pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert edge.
