The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080772 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on steel workpieces. Identified by ISO code TCMT 16 T3 08-UR 4335, it features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius. The insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 4335, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. A screw-on holding method and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with standard TCMT-style toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered for turning steel and is classified under primary workpiece material code P, covering carbon steels, alloy steels, and cast steels in general-purpose turning applications. It belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series, which is designed for external turning with positive cutting geometry and light to medium depths of cut. The UR chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip formation is required. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit insert for TCMT-style toolholders within the CoroTurn 107 series. Consult toolholder documentation for specific pocket and screw specifications before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all axes are locked before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating a new insert to avoid premature edge failure.
