The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080697 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-turning operations on steel workpieces. Part of the CoroTurn 107 series, this insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered for effective chip control in steel turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on steel components in both production-shop and job-shop environments. The CCMT431-PM 4335 designation identifies the insert style, size code 431, chip breaker, and grade, making cross-referencing straightforward for tool crib and procurement staff. The ISO code for this insert is CCMT 12 04 04-PM 4335. The PM chip breaker geometry performs well across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical of steel turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is held in place using a screw-clamp insert holding method, compatible with standard CCMT-pocket toolholders.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series CCMT-pocket screw-clamp toolholders. The ISO designation CCMT 12 04 04-PM 4335 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder pocket specifications. Intended primarily for steel workpieces (ISO material group P).
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolsetter during tool change or setup. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature insert failure.
