The SANDVIK COROMANT 6971855 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R390 series face and shoulder milling cutters. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards under grade designation 1130, this insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive rake angle of 22 degrees and a relief angle of 19 degrees. The AlTiCrN coating is applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting applications. With 2 cutting edges, a corner radius of 0.0945 inches, and a maximum depth of cut of 15.70 mm, this insert is suited for productive metal removal in demanding machining environments. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is intended for use in R390 series milling cutter bodies and is engineered to machine steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The PM chip breaker geometry supports stable chip formation across varying feed rates and material conditions. Typical applications include shoulder milling, face milling, and ramping operations on CNC machining centers in both production and job-shop environments. The right-hand cutting orientation and screw-clamping method are consistent with standard R390 toolholder configurations.
Designed for use with R390 series milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code R390-17 04 24E-PM 1130 identifies direct fitment within the R390 cutter series. Compatible material grades P30, M15, and N15 cover a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals.
Installation and replacement of milling inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use a calibrated torque screwdriver appropriate for the insert screw size to avoid over-torquing the clamping screw, which can cause insert seat damage or screw failure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
